Indianapolis Shooting Friday Night: Officer Shot, Suspect Critical

Indianapolis, IN – An Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officer was shot Friday night while responding to a reported disturbance on the city’s north side, leaving the officer hospitalized in stable condition and a suspect in critical condition.

According to IMPD, the incident occurred shortly after 10:00 p.m. Friday in the 6300 block of North Washington Boulevard. Officers initially responded to a report of a possible death investigation involving a firearm, with the suspect still believed to be on scene.

Police said an officer began speaking with individuals at the location when they encountered an intoxicated male who was allegedly armed. As officers attempted to assess the situation, the man reportedly began walking away and told officers to shoot him, according to police.

Authorities say the situation escalated when the suspect allegedly pulled out a firearm and fired shots toward officers. During the exchange, an officer was struck, prompting an officer-involved shooting.

The injured officer was transported to a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. The suspect was also transported to a hospital and remains in critical condition.

According to police, no uninvolved community members were injured during the incident. A firearm was recovered near the suspect at the scene.

The IMPD Critical Incident Response Team is leading the criminal investigation, while Internal Affairs is conducting a separate administrative review. Officials confirmed the involved officer has been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure.
