Duson, LA – A chemical leak at a business in Duson Tuesday morning prompted evacuations, a hazmat response, and hospitalizations before crews brought the situation under control.

According to Louisiana State Police, the incident began shortly after 7:00 a.m. on May 5, 2026, when Troop I Emergency Services Unit responded to a hazardous materials call on Lexington Drive. The initial investigation found a valve malfunction involving boron trifluoride, which led to the release of the chemical at the facility.

Authorities say emergency personnel quickly evacuated the surrounding area, including nearby businesses, as a precaution. Hazmat teams were able to successfully contain the leak, and all evacuation and shelter-in-place orders have since been lifted.

According to state police, a total of 10 individuals were transported to local hospitals for evaluation and treatment. Those affected include three first responders, six employees of the business, and one employee from a nearby company. Officials say all reported injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening.

Louisiana State Police is leading the investigation into the cause of the malfunction, working alongside local and federal partners. The case remains active as officials continue to assess the incident.

Residents are urged to avoid emergency scenes involving hazardous materials and to follow instructions from first responders during similar incidents to ensure public safety.
