Peoria, IL – A 19-year-old woman was injured in a shooting Sunday evening in Peoria, prompting an active investigation by local authorities.
According to the Peoria Police Department, officers were dispatched around 7:21 p.m. Sunday to the 2700 block of West Fremont Street following reports of a group actively fighting. While officers were en route, two ShotSpotter alerts were triggered nearby, indicating gunfire in the area.
Police said the first alert detected approximately 16 rounds fired in the 2800 block of West Fremont Street. A second alert followed shortly after in the 2700 block, indicating about nine additional rounds were fired.
When officers arrived, they located a 19-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg outside a residence. She was transported to a local hospital and is reported to have non-life-threatening injuries.
Members of the Peoria Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division, Crime Scene Unit, and Patrol Division responded to the scene and began an investigation. Authorities have not released any information about a suspect at this time.
