Buffalo, New York – Drivers across New York and Pennsylvania could face water-covered roads and reduced visibility during the April 1–7 period as repeated rounds of rain move through the region, increasing the risk of travel delays on I-90, I-86, and I-81.

According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, this region falls within a high-confidence precipitation zone, with up to an 80% probability of above-normal rainfall across parts of western New York and Pennsylvania, especially near the Great Lakes. Multiple storm systems are expected to track through the area, bringing steady rain and periods of heavier downpours.

Rainfall totals between 2 and 4 inches are possible, particularly in cities like Buffalo, Rochester, Pittsburgh, and Erie. Low-lying roads, underpasses, and flood-prone areas could see rapid water accumulation during heavier rainfall. Lake-enhanced rain may further increase totals near Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. Rivers including the Allegheny and Genesee may rise as runoff increases. PennDOT and NYSDOT may issue travel alerts if standing water impacts key highways.

Temperatures are expected to trend above normal, supporting a mild and moisture-rich pattern that enhances rainfall efficiency across the region.

This wet pattern will persist through April 1–7, with additional advisories or localized flood warnings possible as conditions evolve.
