
Charleston, WV – A suspect has been arrested following a shots fired incident reported Saturday afternoon near Laidley Field, raising concerns for public safety in the area.
According to the Charleston Police Department, the incident occurred around 12:50 p.m. Saturday when multiple shots were allegedly fired from a vehicle in the vicinity of the popular sports complex. Officers responding to the scene determined the gunfire came from a vehicle traveling east on Piedmont Road, prompting an immediate investigation.
Authorities say investigators reviewed evidence and obtained video surveillance from surrounding businesses, which helped identify a suspect. Police allege that Jakai Harrison, 20, of Piedmont, South Carolina, was involved in the incident and has since been taken into custody.
Harrison has been charged with four counts of wanton endangerment. According to police, additional charges may still be pending as the investigation continues. No injuries have been publicly reported in connection to the shooting.
The Laidley Field area, frequently used for community events and athletics, saw increased police presence following the incident as officers worked to secure the scene and gather evidence.
