Perry County, IN – Drivers in southern Indiana should prepare for delays as a planned road closure on State Road 62 is set to begin Monday near Saint Croix, impacting travel across Perry County and routes connecting to Interstate 64.
According to the Indiana Department of Transportation, crews will close State Road 62 on or around Monday, May 11, between Celestine Road and Oklahoma Road. The closure is needed to complete two culvert replacement projects, which are expected to take approximately two weeks, depending on weather conditions.
The affected stretch sits near Saint Croix, a key connector area for local traffic and regional travel between Perry County and nearby Dubois County, as well as routes leading toward the Evansville metro area. Officials say local traffic will still have access up to the closure points but will not be able to pass through the work zone.
A signed detour will direct drivers from State Road 145 to Interstate 64 and then to State Road 37, creating a longer but necessary route around the construction zone. Commuters, delivery drivers, and school transportation services are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time, especially during peak morning and evening hours.
INDOT also reminds drivers to slow down, remain alert, and avoid distractions when approaching work zones, where crews and equipment will be active throughout the project duration.
The project is part of ongoing infrastructure improvements aimed at maintaining roadway safety and drainage efficiency across southern Indiana.
