Lake Villa, IL – Families in Lake Villa and across Lake County are invited to a hands-on bike safety event Saturday, offering kids a chance to learn essential riding skills while connecting with local police.

According to the Lake Villa Police Department, the Bike Rodeo will take place Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at 304 E. Grand Ave. in Lake Villa, located in the northern Chicago metro area. The free event is designed for children of all ages and focuses on safe cycling practices ahead of the busy summer season.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own bikes and helmets. Activities will include guided obstacle courses to improve handling skills, safety instruction from officers, and on-site helmet fittings and bike safety checks. Officers will also be available to meet families and showcase police vehicles, creating an interactive and educational environment.

Organizers say the event aims to build confidence among young riders while reinforcing the importance of traffic awareness and protective gear. The rodeo format allows kids to practice real-world riding scenarios in a controlled setting.

The department notes that events like this help strengthen community relationships while promoting safe outdoor activity during warmer months. With school out and more children riding bikes, officials emphasize that proper safety habits can reduce injuries and improve awareness on local roads.

No registration is required, and attendance is open to the public.
