Chicago, Illinois — Chilly conditions will linger across northern Illinois Saturday before a warmer and more active pattern brings showers Sunday and thunderstorms Monday night, with the greatest impacts expected between 7 p.m. and 1 a.m. south of Chicago in Joliet, Kankakee, Aurora, Naperville and Gary.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, scattered showers will develop Sunday morning between 7 a.m. and 11 a.m., mainly impacting areas near and south of the city, before a stronger round of storms arrives late Monday.

This is part of a broader system pushing warmer air into the Midwest ahead of a disturbance that will trigger thunderstorms, especially south of I-80 where a marginal severe risk is in place.

Sunday morning rain may create slick roads along I-90 and Lake Shore Drive, particularly near low-lying underpasses where water can briefly pool. By Monday night, heavier storms could produce gusty winds capable of downing small branches and causing isolated power outages, along with downpours that quickly flood drainage-prone intersections in Kankakee and Joliet.

Drivers should slow on wet roads and avoid water-covered areas, while residents should secure loose outdoor items ahead of Monday night winds.

The most dangerous conditions will occur between 9 p.m. and midnight Monday, when storms are most likely to intensify south of I-80.
