Springfield, IL – The Illinois Product Farmers Market returns for its 19th season Thursday, May 7, bringing fresh food, family activities, and local vendors to the Illinois State Fairgrounds.
According to the Illinois Department of Agriculture, the market will run from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. each Thursday through September 24, with the exception of three August dates. Opening day will take place at The Shed, located inside the fairgrounds, with parking available near Gate 3.
State officials say the weekly event supports Illinois farmers and small businesses while expanding access to fresh, locally sourced food. Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton noted the market helps connect communities and promote healthier food options statewide.
Opening day will feature a range of attractions, including barbecue, burgers, and desserts from local vendors, along with live music from the band Not Petty. Families can expect activities such as Touch-A-Truck, face painting, balloon artists, and yard games.
Prize drawings will take place throughout the evening, offering items such as gift cards, event passes, and vendor products. Attendees must be present to win. Visitors will also receive a free reusable market bag while supplies last.
Organizers say shoppers using LINK benefits will receive a dollar-for-dollar match up to $25, which can be used to purchase fruits and vegetables.
The market will continue weekly with rotating food trucks, cooking demonstrations, and raffles featuring “Market Cash” and vendor gift baskets. A fall market is also scheduled for Saturday, October 10.
All products sold at the market are produced, processed, or packaged in Illinois.
