Davenport, Iowa — A warming trend will bring increasing rain and storm chances to the Quad Cities region, with the most significant travel and outdoor impacts expected Monday afternoon through late evening as storms develop along an approaching cold front.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities, light showers may begin after 10 p.m. Sunday, but the primary impact window arrives Monday from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., when storm chances increase to 50 percent and conditions become more unstable. Breezy winds and warming temperatures into the upper 70s will help fuel storm development.

Cities including Davenport, Moline, Rock Island, Galesburg and Muscatine will see increasing impacts, especially along I-80, I-74 and U.S. 61 where wet pavement and sudden downpours could reduce visibility and slow traffic. Urban low spots and underpasses may see quick water pooling during heavier showers, while gusty winds could blow debris onto roadways.

This is part of a broader system moving across the Midwest, bringing a brief warm-up ahead of a cold front that will trigger scattered storms and then usher in cooler air by Tuesday.

Residents should plan for changing conditions, avoid driving through water-covered roads and secure loose outdoor items ahead of gusty winds.

The greatest disruption is expected between 3 p.m. and 10 p.m. Monday, when storms may produce the most significant travel slowdowns and brief hazardous conditions.
