Grand Junction, Colorado – Unseasonably hot temperatures will peak across western Colorado by Wednesday afternoon, with highs nearing 90°F before a noticeable cooldown begins later this week.
According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, a strong high-pressure system is driving temperatures 20 to 25 degrees above normal across the Western Slope. Grand Junction is expected to reach around 89°F Wednesday, while nearby areas like Moab could climb into the low 90s and Durango into the low 80s.
Communities along I-70 and Highway 50, including Grand Junction, Delta, and Montrose, will experience dry and warm conditions through midweek, increasing fire risk in areas with dry fuels. Steamboat Springs will remain cooler but still above average, with highs in the 70s.
By Thursday into Friday, temperatures begin to ease slightly, dropping back into the upper 70s and low 80s. A broader pattern shift arrives this weekend as the ridge moves east, allowing cooler and more unsettled weather to return.
Residents should stay hydrated, avoid outdoor burning, and prepare for changing conditions by the weekend. Additional updates are expected as the cooler pattern develops.
