Paducah, Kentucky – Temperatures will surge toward record levels by Thursday afternoon, creating a sharp shift to stormy conditions by late Thursday night that could impact overnight travel.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, highs will climb from the 60s Tuesday into the upper 70s Wednesday before peaking between 83°F and 89°F Thursday. A cold front will move into western Kentucky Thursday night, bringing showers and thunderstorms, with the potential for locally heavy rainfall and isolated severe storms.

Communities across Paducah, Murray, Mayfield, and Hopkinsville could see storms develop after 9 p.m., with rain continuing into early Friday. Roads along I-24 and US-60 may become slick as rainfall increases, and ponding water could develop in low-lying areas by the Friday morning commute.

Northern portions of the region face the greatest chance for stronger storms, with gusty winds and brief heavy downpours possible overnight. Conditions will shift quickly behind the front, with temperatures falling into the 50s and 60s Friday.

Residents should secure outdoor items ahead of Thursday night, monitor alerts, and avoid driving through flooded roadways. Cooler and quieter weather returns Saturday, but additional updates may be issued as the storm system approaches.
