Buffalo, New York – Rain will move into western New York by Thursday evening, with wet roads developing quickly and a transition to light snow possible before the Friday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, dry conditions will hold through Wednesday before a widespread system brings steady rain into the region starting Thursday afternoon and intensifying into the evening. Rain chances climb to 70% to 80% across Buffalo, Jamestown, and Rochester by Thursday night.
Drivers along I-90, Route 33, and I-290 should prepare for ponding water and reduced visibility beginning after 6 p.m. Thursday. Rainfall may be steady at times overnight, especially in areas south of Buffalo including Springville and Olean, where drainage issues could develop.
As colder air moves in late Thursday night into early Friday, precipitation may mix with or change to light snow across much of the region, including Batavia and Warsaw. While accumulations appear limited, slushy conditions could develop on untreated roads early Friday morning.
Temperatures will trend cooler into the weekend, supporting additional light snow chances Friday morning into Saturday. Residents should plan for changing travel conditions late Thursday night and stay alert for updates as the system moves through.
