Columbus, Ohio – A rapid warm-up will push temperatures into the mid-70s by Thursday afternoon, setting the stage for showers and thunderstorms that could impact travel late Thursday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, dry and quiet conditions will hold through Wednesday as temperatures climb above normal. Highs will reach the 60s Wednesday before peaking near 75°F Thursday across central and southwest Ohio.

Rain chances increase sharply after 8 p.m. Thursday as a cold front moves into the region, bringing widespread showers and thunderstorms. Cities including Columbus, Dayton, and Cincinnati could see rain coverage climb above 70% overnight, with periods of heavier rainfall reducing visibility along I-70, I-71, and I-75.

The heaviest rain is expected into the early Friday morning hours, where ponding on roadways and minor flooding in low-lying areas may develop. While severe weather is not the primary concern, isolated stronger storms with gusty winds cannot be ruled out.

Drivers should plan for dry conditions through Thursday evening before conditions deteriorate overnight. Charge devices, allow extra travel time late Thursday night, and avoid water-covered roads. Additional updates are expected as the cold front approaches.
