New York, New York – New York ranks among the top states for UFO sightings per capita, with one report for every 1,003 residents, reflecting decades of consistent unexplained aerial activity.

According to Casino.ca’s annual UFO sightings analysis, New York places third nationwide, combining both a high volume of reports and a large population base. The ranking uses national datasets tracking unidentified aerial phenomena since 1974.

In total, New York has recorded 8,314 UFO sightings over that period, placing it among the highest states by overall volume. While larger states like California report more sightings, New York’s per-capita rate keeps it near the top of national rankings.

Reports have been documented across the state, from New York City to upstate regions including the Hudson Valley, an area long associated with repeated sightings. One of the most well-known waves occurred during the 1980s and 1990s, when multiple witnesses reported large, silent, V-shaped objects moving slowly across the night sky.

More recent incidents include sightings of luminous objects hovering or moving in formation. In one case, witnesses described a trio of bright dots suspended in the sky before disappearing abruptly, according to publicly submitted reports included in the analysis.

Researchers say New York’s mix of dense urban observation points and darker rural skies may contribute to its high reporting rate. Nationwide, the average chance of reporting a UFO sighting is estimated at about 1 in 1,700, making New York’s rate notably higher.

Sightings are most frequently reported at night, particularly by commuters, residents, and late-shift workers observing the sky in both urban and suburban settings.

New York’s ranking reinforces its position as one of the most active UFO reporting states in the country, according to the latest annual data.
