Florida – Strong winds are already whipping across Jacksonville this morning, and dangerous surf conditions are building fast along area beaches. Flags are flying, waves are rising, and conditions can turn hazardous within minutes for anyone near the water.
According to the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, a Wind Advisory remains in effect through 8 p.m. with northeast winds of 20 to 25 mph and gusts reaching 40 to 45 mph. At the same time, a high rip current risk is in place from early morning through late Wednesday night, alongside a high surf advisory with waves reaching 6 to 8 feet.
Across Duval, Nassau, and St. Johns counties, beach conditions are especially dangerous. Rip currents can pull even strong swimmers away from shore. Officials urge swimmers to stay out of the water or remain near lifeguards. If caught in a current, float and signal for help.
Inland, gusty winds may blow around unsecured objects and create difficult driving conditions, especially on bridges like the Dames Point Bridge and I-95 overpasses. A few isolated power outages are possible where tree limbs snap.
Showers develop through the day, with breezy conditions continuing into tonight. By Wednesday, scattered showers linger before skies begin to clear. Sunshine returns Thursday with highs near 78°F, followed by a surge into the mid-80s Friday.
Beach hazards will remain the biggest concern through midweek. If you’re heading to the coast, stay alert and follow posted warnings. Are surf conditions rough where you are today?
