Fort Wayne, Indiana – A 23-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder after a woman was found dead following a reported disturbance in Fort Wayne, police said.
According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, officers responded around 2:59 p.m. Monday to the 7900 block of Decatur Road in Allen County for a disturbance call. When officers arrived, they located a deceased adult female at the scene.
Detectives with the department’s Homicide Unit launched an investigation, processing evidence and interviewing witnesses. Authorities have not released the identity of the victim, pending notification of family members.
Following the investigation, police identified 23-year-old Kevin Smith, of Detroit, as a suspect in the case. Smith was taken into custody at the time of the initial police response, according to officials.
Police allege Smith was involved in the incident that led to the woman’s death. He has been preliminarily charged with murder, though formal charges and court proceedings are expected to follow.
Investigators have not yet released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the disturbance or what led to the homicide.
