Cleveland, OH – Hundreds of Ohio workers are facing job losses as a major manufacturing company moves forward with closing multiple facilities across the state.

First Brands Group has announced plans to shut down three manufacturing locations in Ohio, impacting a total of 819 employees across several communities. The closures are expected to take effect later this spring, marking a significant shift for the company’s regional operations and raising concerns about local economic impacts.

According to company-issued WARN notices, the layoffs are scheduled to begin May 31, affecting facilities in Tiffin, Bowling Green and Cleveland. The largest impact will be in Tiffin, where 407 employees at the Seneca County facility are expected to lose their jobs. In Bowling Green, 302 workers at the Wood County plant will be affected, while 110 employees in Cleveland’s Cuyahoga County will also face separation.

The notices indicate that some employees may be temporarily retained beyond the initial date to assist with remaining operations, including potential asset sales. However, those extensions are not guaranteed for all workers, and many are expected to be separated in accordance with previously issued notices.

First Brands Group stated in its filings that the closures are part of broader operational changes within its U.S. manufacturing footprint. The company did not publicly elaborate on the specific reasons behind the shutdowns but noted that the actions align with ongoing business adjustments.

Local officials and workforce agencies are expected to respond with support services, including job placement assistance and retraining opportunities, as affected employees prepare for the transition.

The closures represent a notable loss for the communities involved, particularly in smaller cities where manufacturing jobs play a critical role in the local economy.
