Daviess County, Indiana Traffic Stop Today Leads to Drug and Firearm Arrest on US 50

Daviess County, IN – A routine traffic stop in Daviess County early Tuesday morning allegedly led to the arrest of a driver found with suspected methamphetamine and a firearm along US 50.

According to Indiana State Police, the incident happened Tuesday at approximately 7:28 a.m. when Master Trooper Jarrod Lents was patrolling near Montgomery and initiated a stop on a Chevrolet pickup for speeding. Police said the driver identified himself as Marco Antonio Ortiz Lopez, 33, of Mexico, and allegedly had never been issued a valid driver’s license in the United States.

Authorities reported that Ortiz Lopez was taken into custody during the stop, and a subsequent search allegedly revealed suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia in his pockets. Troopers further alleged that during an inventory search of the vehicle, a .25-caliber pistol was located.

Ortiz Lopez was transported to the Daviess County Jail without incident. He is currently facing multiple preliminary charges, including possession of methamphetamine with a firearm, a Level 5 felony, and possession of a firearm by an alien, a Level 6 felony. He is also allegedly charged with operating a vehicle without ever receiving a license, a Class A misdemeanor, and possession of paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor.

Indiana State Police emphasized that all charges are allegations, and Ortiz Lopez is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional information has been released at this time.
