Chicago, Illinois — Scattered showers and gusty winds will move into the Chicago area late Tuesday afternoon, creating slick roads and brief visibility drops during the evening commute from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. across Chicago, Cicero, Oak Park, Evanston, and Berwyn.
According to the National Weather Service, showers will begin after 4 p.m. with peak coverage between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Wind gusts may reach up to 30 mph, especially along the lakefront and open urban corridors.
Rainfall will be light but enough to create slick pavement within minutes on heavily traveled routes including I-90, I-94, and I-290. Gusty winds could push vehicles in exposed areas and scatter debris, particularly near elevated sections and low-lying underpasses where water may briefly pool.
This is part of a broader system moving through the Midwest, driven by a passing disturbance and modest moisture that supports scattered evening showers.
Drivers should slow down on wet roads and keep both hands on the wheel during gusts, especially between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. when conditions peak. Secure loose outdoor items ahead of the wind shift.
Conditions improve after midnight, but cooler air and additional isolated showers may return Wednesday after 1 p.m., creating another round of minor travel impacts.
