Flagstaff, Arizona – Record-breaking heat is gripping northern Arizona right now, with temperatures climbing well above seasonal norms and creating elevated fire weather risks through at least Friday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, daily record highs are expected to continue through midweek, with cities like Camp Verde reaching the mid-90s and Sedona pushing into the upper 80s. Flagstaff itself is forecast to climb into the upper 70s and low 80s, unusually warm for late March, with peak heat arriving Tuesday and Wednesday.
Dry air combined with breezy afternoon winds is increasing wildfire risk across Coconino, Yavapai, and Navajo counties. Areas along I-17, I-40, and State Route 89A could see rapid fire spread if ignitions occur, prompting officials to urge caution with outdoor activities.
Residents should avoid open flames, secure tow chains, and stay alert for any fire restrictions as conditions remain primed for fast-moving fires. Hydration and limiting outdoor exposure during peak afternoon heat will also be important.
Moisture begins to return by the weekend, bringing a 20 to 30 percent chance of showers by Sunday. Until then, heat and fire خطر concerns remain elevated, and additional advisories may be issued.
