San Antonio, Texas – Temperatures climbing into the mid-90s this afternoon will push heat index values near 100° within hours, while isolated storms between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. could disrupt travel with gusts up to 45 mph.

According to the National Weather Service in Austin/San Antonio, South Central Texas faces a dual threat: a Level 1 (marginal) severe weather risk late today and increasing heat that peaks Tuesday with heat index values between 103° and 108°. The highest storm chances remain west of the I-35 corridor, including Del Rio, Eagle Pass, and Kerrville.

Cities along I-35, including Austin, San Marcos, New Braunfels, and San Antonio, will see highs between 91° and 96° today. Farther southwest, Carrizo Springs and Eagle Pass could reach 99°. Any storms that develop may produce large hail, lightning, and brief damaging wind gusts, especially in Hill Country counties.

Humidity will intensify the heat through Tuesday, when Austin and San Antonio are expected to reach heat index values around 102° to 105°, with higher readings near 108° in areas like Uvalde and Eagle Pass. This level of heat can quickly impact outdoor workers, construction crews, and anyone without access to cooling.

Limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, drink water frequently, and check on vulnerable neighbors. If storms develop, move indoors immediately and avoid travel during downpours or lightning.

Heat risks will remain elevated through Tuesday evening, with additional updates expected if stronger storms or heat advisories are issued.
