Jacksonville, IL – A tense early morning standoff in Jacksonville ended safely Thursday after an armed individual barricaded inside a home was taken into custody following hours of negotiation.

According to Illinois State Police, the incident began around 1 a.m. Thursday when Jacksonville Police Department officers responded to a domestic disturbance in the 700 block of Dark Street in Morgan County. Authorities said shots were reportedly fired during the incident, and officers initially on scene described the individual as uncooperative.

Due to the escalating situation, JPD requested assistance from Illinois State Police. Crisis negotiators and SWAT officers were deployed as law enforcement worked to establish communication with the individual inside the residence.

Police say negotiations continued for several hours as authorities attempted to de-escalate the situation and ensure the safety of everyone involved. At approximately 11:30 a.m., the individual exited the home and was taken into custody without further incident.

According to officials, the person was transported for medical evaluation following the standoff. No officers or civilians were injured during the incident, despite the earlier reports of gunfire.
