Kanawha County, WV – Authorities are asking for the public’s help today in identifying a man accused of breaking into a Dollar General store in Saint Albans earlier this month.

According to the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened around 12:55 a.m. on Thursday, April 3, at the Dollar General located at 517 Winfield Road. Investigators say the suspect allegedly forced entry through locked rear loading doors before entering the store.

Once inside, the suspect reportedly moved behind the register area and took items including lighters and batteries. Deputies say the individual then exited the store and is believed to have fled the area on a bicycle.

Officials released a surveillance image and a detailed description of the suspect. He is described as a skinny white male who was shirtless at the time, allegedly using his shirt as a mask. He was also wearing khaki pants that sagged below the waist, exposing underwear, and had plastic Dollar General bags over his hands, believed to be used as makeshift gloves. No visible upper body tattoos were noted.

The case has drawn attention locally due to the unusual appearance and behavior of the suspect, whom investigators have informally nicknamed the “Beltless Bungling Burglar.”

Anyone who recognizes the individual or has information about the incident is urged to contact a Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office detective at 304-357-0556. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the department’s website.
