CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. – A major road closure is causing delays for drivers in Cherokee County as Bells Ferry Road remains shut down due to infrastructure damage.

According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Bells Ferry Road is completely closed between Wyngate Parkway and Surrey Drive as crews work to replace a damaged power pole. Authorities estimate the closure will remain in place until approximately noon.

The shutdown is impacting traffic in a busy corridor near the lake area, with officials reporting significant southbound backups stretching just south of the water. Drivers in the area should expect delays and are encouraged to seek alternate routes.

While a detour has been established around the closure, congestion is still expected as traffic is redirected onto nearby roads. The closure affects both local commuters and through traffic in the Metro Atlanta region.

Utility crews remain on scene working to safely replace the damaged pole, which is critical to restoring normal traffic flow. Officials have not indicated the cause of the damage but emphasized the importance of keeping drivers and workers safe during the repair process.

Motorists are urged to follow posted detours, reduce speed in work zones, and remain alert for changing traffic conditions throughout the morning.
