Detroit, Michigan – Scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop after 3 p.m. Friday across southeast Michigan, with localized impacts through 9 p.m. as gusty winds and heavy rain threaten travel along major corridors including I-75, I-94, and I-96.
According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, a marginal risk for severe weather is in place mainly along and south of the I-69 corridor this afternoon and evening. Isolated storms may produce wind gusts up to 60 mph along with brief but intense downpours.
Communities including Detroit, Ann Arbor, Monroe, Jackson, and Flint could see rapidly changing conditions during the evening commute. Heavy rain may lead to ponding on roads, especially in low-lying and urban areas, while gusty winds could bring down small tree limbs and cause minor power disruptions.
Drivers should slow down on wet roads, allow extra stopping distance, and avoid water-covered streets. Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items and stay alert for weather warnings as storms develop.
Storm activity is expected to weaken after 9 p.m., though additional showers may linger overnight. Further updates are possible if stronger storms form or expand farther north.
