St. Louis County, MO – A deadly shooting in North County has left one man dead and another injured, prompting an ongoing investigation by local authorities.
According to the St. Louis County Police Department, the incident occurred Tuesday, April 21, 2026, in the 1100 block of Congress Avenue. Officers from the North County Precinct responded around 2:40 a.m. after a ShotSpotter alert signaled possible gunfire in the area. Upon arrival, officers located two adult males suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Police said one victim, later identified as 37-year-old Bryant Whitley of the 6100 block of Lucille Avenue in St. Louis, MO, was transported to a nearby hospital for life-saving treatment but was pronounced deceased. A second adult male was also taken to the hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening.
Preliminary findings indicate the shooting allegedly stemmed from a dispute between individuals who were known to each other. During the altercation, Whitley allegedly discharged a firearm, and another individual returned fire, according to investigators.
Detectives with the Bureau of Crimes Against Persons have identified a person of interest and are currently conducting interviews. No charges have been announced at this time as the investigation remains active.
