Orland Park, IL – Residents in Orland Park and surrounding Cook County communities will have an opportunity this Saturday to safely dispose of unused or expired prescription medications during a nationwide takeback event.

According to the Orland Park Police Department, the DEA National Prescription Drug Takeback Day will take place Saturday, April 25, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Orland Park Police Department, located at 15100 S. Ravinia Avenue.

The event is part of a nationwide initiative led by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration aimed at reducing prescription drug misuse and preventing potentially dangerous medications from being improperly stored or discarded. Officials say the program provides a safe, convenient, and anonymous way for the public to dispose of medications.

Residents are encouraged to bring unwanted prescription drugs, including pills and capsules, for proper disposal. Liquids, needles, and sharps are typically not accepted at these events.

Takeback Day events are held periodically throughout the year and are considered a key tool in combating opioid misuse and accidental poisonings, particularly among children and teens who may have access to unsecured medications at home.

No appointment is required, and the service is free to the public.

Officials say events like this help remove potentially harmful substances from households while also protecting the environment from improper disposal methods such as flushing medications down the drain.
