Nevada – Light flakes and cold air are brushing parts of Reno this morning, with a rain-snow mix creating damp, slick pavement along I-80 and local roads as temperatures hover in the low 30s.

According to the National Weather Service, a 20% chance of snow showers early will shift to a mix of rain and snow through late morning, with snow levels rising from valley floors to around 5,600 feet by afternoon . Little to no accumulation is expected, but brief bursts could still reduce visibility.

Drivers across Reno, Sparks, and Sun Valley should expect patchy slick spots, especially on bridges and shaded roads. This is prime time for “flash freezing” in colder pockets, where melting moisture refreezes quickly. Plan extra travel time and keep speeds down through midday.

Conditions improve steadily by afternoon as clouds break and precipitation tapers. Winds stay light, generally under 10 mph, limiting widespread impacts.

By Thursday, the pattern flips fast. Sunshine returns with highs near 65°F, followed by a warmer push into Friday with temperatures climbing to around 69°F. That warming trend continues into the weekend, though slightly cooler air returns Saturday with highs near 60°F under partly sunny skies.

Meteorologists continue tracking a broader Western system bringing mountain snow to higher elevations across the northern Rockies, while severe storm chances build across the Plains later this week. Reno stays on the quieter side of this system after today’s early mix.

Five Day Outlook for Reno, Nevada:
