Michigan – A cold, gray start hangs over Detroit this morning, where temperatures hover near 36°F and damp pavement hints at a messy transition ahead.

According to the National Weather Service, conditions stay partly sunny today with highs reaching near 52°F, but a more active pattern builds quickly into Sunday. Showers develop during the day, with a 60 percent chance of rain across Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties.

By Sunday night, colder air pushes in fast. Rain begins mixing with snow, especially after late evening, with temperatures dropping toward 32°F. Roads along I-94, I-75, and the Lodge Freeway could turn slushy in spots. Plan extra travel time if heading out late.

Meteorologists note precipitation totals may reach around a quarter inch, but the bigger concern is the timing of the temperature drop. As moisture lingers, conditions may shift rapidly from wet to slick.

Monday brings partial clearing but colder air, with highs only near 43°F. Gusty winds may add a bite to the air, especially near the Detroit River.

By early Tuesday, temperatures fall to around 28°F. That raises the risk for flash freezing, where leftover moisture hardens into black ice. Bridges and overpasses will be the first trouble spots during the morning commute.

Sunshine returns Tuesday with highs near 48°F, followed by gradual warming into midweek.

This is a classic early spring pattern in Michigan—rain, a quick snow mix, then a sharp freeze.
