Detroit, Michigan – A sharp temperature drop is set to disrupt weekend plans across Southeast Michigan within the next 24 hours as rain and colder air move in Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Detroit/Pontiac, dry and mild conditions hold through Saturday with highs ranging from the upper 40s in the Thumb to near 60°F in southern cities like Adrian and Ann Arbor. Detroit is expected to reach around 52°F today under mostly quiet conditions.

Changes arrive quickly Sunday as a cold front pushes into the region by late morning. Rain spreads across Metro Detroit, Flint, and Saginaw through the afternoon, with temperatures initially climbing into the mid to upper 50s before falling steadily into the low 40s by evening. Areas north of I-69, including Bad Axe and Sandusky, may struggle to get out of the 40s all day.

The temperature swing could create slick spots on roads late Sunday, especially where rain lingers into the evening and colder air settles in. Drivers along I-75, I-94, and US-23 should prepare for reduced visibility and wet conditions during peak travel hours.

Residents should keep rain gear handy and plan for colder conditions returning by Sunday night. Cooler weather continues into early next week as this system exits.
