Sacramento, California – Triple-digit-style heat impacts are hitting Northern California right now, with multiple cities pushing into the 90s and breaking long-standing March records during peak afternoon hours.

According to the National Weather Service in Sacramento, widespread record highs were set across the interior from March 15 through Friday, including 93°F in Redding, 91°F in Modesto, and 90°F in Stockton. Several locations also recorded their earliest 90-degree day ever, with Red Bluff and Redding reaching that threshold as early as midweek.

Sacramento Executive Airport climbed to 88°F, tying previous records, while overnight lows remained unusually warm, limiting relief and increasing stress on vulnerable populations. The sustained heat over several consecutive days is more typical of early summer than late March.

Communities along the I-5 corridor, including Red Bluff, Redding, and Stockton, are seeing accelerated snowmelt in nearby foothills and rising fire concerns as dry vegetation combines with above-normal temperatures. Officials urge residents to limit outdoor activity during peak heat between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., stay hydrated, and check on elderly neighbors.

This heat wave holds through Sunday evening, with additional record highs possible before a cooling trend begins early next week. More advisories may be issued if elevated fire conditions expand.
