Little Rock, AR – Arkansas is heading into its first significant heat event of the season, with temperatures soaring into the upper 80s and 90s this weekend and several records at risk.
The National Weather Service in Little Rock says highs on Saturday could reach 89° in Little Rock and North Little Rock, 90° in Conway, and 93° in Russellville, with multiple locations expected to tie or break daily records.
By Sunday, temperatures climb even higher, with widespread 90s expected across the state.
In addition to the heat, a moderate heat risk is developing across much of Arkansas, meaning the conditions could impact people sensitive to heat—especially those without access to cooling or proper hydration.
This marks the first stretch of very warm temperatures this season, which can be more impactful as people are not yet acclimated to the heat.
Officials urge residents to stay hydrated, take breaks from the heat, and check on vulnerable individuals, including the elderly, children, and pets.
With little relief expected, this early-season heat wave will bring a strong taste of summer to Arkansas this weekend.
