La Crosse, WI – Temperatures are set to surge toward 80 degrees by Saturday afternoon, putting several long-standing records at risk across western Wisconsin and northeast Iowa.
According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, multiple cities could tie or break daily high temperature records, many of which date back to 1938 and 2012. La Crosse’s record of 75 degrees is particularly vulnerable, while nearby locations like Prairie du Chien and Decorah may approach or exceed records near 80 degrees.
Communities including La Crosse, Winona, Rochester, and Prairie du Chien will see the peak warmth Saturday afternoon, with temperatures running well above seasonal averages. This level of warmth in March is unusual and could mark one of the earliest stretches of near-80-degree weather on record for some locations.
The warm surge follows a mild Friday and will likely be short-lived, as a system moving in late Saturday night into Sunday brings cooler air back into the region.
Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the warm conditions but remain aware of rapid changes ahead. Additional updates are expected if more records appear likely to fall Saturday afternoon.
