Buffalo, NY – Rain is quickly spreading across western New York this morning, creating wet roads and reduced visibility as it moves from northwest to southeast through midday.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, precipitation began early this morning and will continue expanding across the region through late morning. Areas east of Lake Ontario, including Watertown and Lowville, may see a brief period of wet snow or a rain-snow mix before temperatures rise enough to change everything to rain by early afternoon.
Cities such as Buffalo, Rochester, Jamestown, and Batavia will see steady rainfall through midday, with totals generally ranging from 0.25 to 0.5 inches. Rainfall rates may briefly increase during late morning hours, reducing visibility on major routes like I-90 and I-190.
Farther inland across the Finger Lakes, including Geneva and Canandaigua, rain will arrive slightly later but follow a similar pattern of steady precipitation through the afternoon.
Rain will begin tapering off from northwest to southeast by mid to late afternoon, improving travel conditions into the evening. Additional updates may be issued if rainfall becomes heavier than expected.
