Pueblo, CO – Critical fire weather conditions are developing across southern Colorado today, with dangerous winds and extremely low humidity creating an immediate risk for fast-moving wildfires.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, Red Flag conditions are in place from 11 AM to 7 PM Monday across Baca and Prowers counties, where humidity will drop to 7–12% and south winds will gust up to 35 mph. These conditions can allow fires to ignite and spread rapidly across dry grasslands, especially along U.S. 50 and Highway 287.

The threat escalates further on Wednesday, when a Red Flag Warning expands across much of south-central and southeast Colorado. Winds are expected to increase to 25–35 mph, with gusts reaching 40 to 60 mph, while humidity drops even lower to 5–12%. This combination could lead to extreme fire behavior and uncontrollable spread in areas including Pueblo, La Junta, Trinidad, and Colorado Springs.

Residents should avoid all outdoor burning, secure trailer chains, and be cautious with any equipment that could spark flames. Travel may be impacted by reduced visibility if fires develop near roadways.

Fire danger will remain elevated through midweek, with additional updates expected as conditions evolve.
