South Bend, IN – Subfreezing temperatures are creating slick and hazardous conditions across northern Indiana this morning, with readings in the 20s impacting roads, vehicles, and sensitive vegetation before a rapid warm-up begins.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, a Freeze Warning remains in effect through mid-morning Monday as temperatures dipped into the 20s across much of the region. Bridges and overpasses along I-90, I-69, and U.S. 30 may develop thin ice during the early commute, especially in areas around South Bend, Elkhart, and Fort Wayne.

Temperatures will recover into the upper 40s to mid-50s this afternoon, then climb significantly through midweek. Highs are expected to reach 69–75°F Tuesday, 70–76°F Wednesday, and as warm as 77–80°F Thursday across cities including Valparaiso, Goshen, and Warsaw.

A chance of showers returns Tuesday night, with rain probabilities between 30% and 40%, potentially impacting late evening travel. Otherwise, dry and mild conditions dominate through Thursday before additional systems approach later in the week.

Residents should watch for icy patches early today and protect sensitive plants, but improving conditions are expected by midday. Further updates may be issued if additional cold or midweek rain brings new impacts.
