Milwaukee, WI – A light mix of rain and freezing drizzle is creating a brief but impactful risk for slick roads across eastern Wisconsin, especially during the early Thursday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, areas northeast of the Interstate 90 and 94 corridors face the highest chance of light freezing rain through early Thursday morning. Cities including Sheboygan, Fond du Lac, and Ozaukee County communities could see thin ice develop on untreated roads, bridges, and overpasses before temperatures climb above freezing.
In Milwaukee and Waukesha, the risk is lower but not zero, with isolated slick spots possible on elevated roadways and less-traveled streets. Farther west toward Madison, conditions should remain mainly wet, though brief freezing drizzle cannot be ruled out before sunrise.
Drivers are urged to slow down and watch for black ice, particularly on bridges and ramps where surface temperatures cool fastest. Allow extra time and avoid sudden braking during the morning commute.
Conditions are expected to improve quickly after sunrise as temperatures rise, melting any ice by late morning. No additional hazardous weather is expected through early next week, though updates will be issued if conditions change.
