Chicago, IL – Temperatures are climbing fast across Illinois, with a spring-like warmup pushing highs into the 70s by Sunday before a sharp cooldown arrives early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, dry conditions will dominate through the weekend with no widespread or soaking rain expected. Highs Thursday range from the low 50s near Lake Michigan to the upper 60s inland, followed by even warmer readings Friday into Saturday, where much of northern Illinois reaches the 60s and low 70s.

By Sunday afternoon, inland areas could peak between 57 and 77 degrees, while lakeshore communities remain cooler due to onshore winds. A breezy cold front will move through later Sunday, marking a turning point in the pattern.

Cities including Aurora, Joliet, and Rockford will feel the warmest conditions, while Chicago’s lakefront may stay 10 to 15 degrees cooler at times. Despite the warmth, the lack of rainfall continues to dry out soils across the region.

Residents should take advantage of the mild weather but remain aware of elevated fire risk due to dry conditions. The cooldown arrives Monday, with highs dropping into the low to mid-40s before a modest rebound into the 50s by Tuesday.
