Huntsville, AL – Rain and thunderstorms will move into North Alabama within hours, with the heaviest activity expected between 6 p.m. and midnight, creating slick roads and slower travel across key corridors including I-565 and U.S. 72.
According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, storm coverage will reach 50 to 90 percent tonight as a cold front pushes through the Tennessee Valley. Temperatures will fall roughly 20 degrees behind the front, with overnight lows dropping into the mid-40s across Madison and Limestone counties.
Drivers should expect reduced visibility and ponding water on roadways during peak evening travel. Heavier downpours could briefly overwhelm drainage in low-lying areas, especially near Huntsville city streets and along I-65 between Athens and Decatur. Wind gusts are not expected to be severe, but lightning and brief heavy rain may disrupt outdoor plans and delay traffic.
Conditions improve quickly after midnight, with clearing skies and dry weather returning Sunday. Highs rebound into the mid-60s, followed by a steady warm-up into the upper 70s by Tuesday.
