Detroit, MI – Temperatures will plunge to near freezing by 2 a.m. Sunday, coating much of Michigan in frost and putting early crops, gardens, and outdoor plumbing at risk through mid-morning.
According to the National Weather Service offices in Detroit/Pontiac and Grand Rapids, a Frost Advisory is in effect from 2 a.m. to 10 a.m. Sunday across southeast, central, and western Michigan. A more severe Freeze Watch begins Sunday evening and continues through Monday morning, when lows could fall as low as 20°F statewide.
By sunrise Sunday, cities including Detroit, Flint, Ann Arbor, Lansing, and Grand Rapids will see widespread frost formation, with temperatures ranging from 33°F in the southeast to as low as 26°F in western Michigan. Rural areas and low-lying locations will cool fastest, increasing the risk of crop damage. While roads remain dry, drivers should expect frost on windshields and patchy ground fog, especially along corridors like I-94, I-96, and US-131.
