Oak Brook, IL – A 14-year-old Addison boy allegedly led Oak Brook police on a high-speed chase early Tuesday in a stolen vehicle before he was found hiding in a backyard shed, prosecutors said.

According to the DuPage County Stateโ€™s Attorneyโ€™s Office, the incident happened at about 1 a.m. Tuesday after an Oak Brook officer allegedly spotted a Toyota stopped beyond the white line at a red light near Route 83 and Hodges Road. Police said the officer began following the vehicle and activated emergency lights near 16th Street, prompting the Toyota to stop briefly on the eastbound Butterfield Road ramp.

Authorities allege the juvenile then sped away as the officer approached the passenger side of the car. During the chase, the boy allegedly reached speeds of about 70 mph on Butterfield Road and repeatedly ignored red lights, according to prosecutors. Police said the pursuit continued until the vehicle entered a residential area, where the officer slowed down and ended the active chase while still tracking the Toyotaโ€™s direction of travel.

A short time later, officers allegedly found the Toyota abandoned with significant tire and wheel damage. With help from a K9 unit, police said the juvenile was located in a shed behind a home in the 800 block of Saylor Avenue.

The boy is charged in juvenile court with one count of possession of a stolen motor vehicle, a Class 2 felony, and one count of aggravated fleeing or eluding a peace officer, a Class 4 felony. Following a detention hearing Wednesday morning, Judge Kishori Tank ordered that he be released on home detention.

Prosecutors said charges are also pending against three other juveniles who allegedly got out of the vehicle and fled. The boyโ€™s next court date is scheduled for April 9, 2026, before Judge Tank. Authorities noted the charges are allegations only, and the juvenile is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
