Missouri – Water pools quickly along curbs and low crossings in Kansas City this afternoon as rounds of heavy rain track over the same areas, raising flash flood concerns.
According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill, a Flood Watch remains in effect through late tonight as storms produce repeated downpours over saturated ground. Some areas could see 2 to 4 inches of rain, especially near and south of U.S. Highway 50.
Across the metro, including Overland Park, Independence, and Lee’s Summit, creeks and drainage systems may struggle to keep up. Roads like I-35, I-70, and I-435 could see ponding water and reduced visibility during heavier bursts. Avoid low-water crossings and never drive through flooded roadways.
Meteorologists are also tracking the risk for strong storms. Damaging wind gusts and large hail remain possible as cells organize later today. A brief tornado cannot be ruled out, especially as instability increases.
Conditions improve by Sunday morning as the front pushes east. Expect clearing skies and a high near 70°F, with calmer winds and drying pavement by midday.
The pattern shifts quickly into a spring warm-up. Highs reach the mid-70s Monday and push toward the upper 70s by Tuesday, offering a stretch of quieter weather before the next rain chance late next week.
