Kansas City, Missouri – Temperatures are surging fast across Missouri today, with near-record heat building ahead of a weekend pattern shift that could impact outdoor plans and fire safety.
According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, highs will climb into the upper 70s today and push into the low 80s by Friday, with Kansas City expected to reach near 82°F. Cities including St. Joseph, Kirksville, and Lee’s Summit are also approaching record territory through Saturday as dry air dominates the region.
The warming trend stretches across western and central Missouri, especially along the I-70 corridor, where dry ground and gusty conditions may elevate fire danger. Residents are urged to avoid outdoor burning and properly dispose of cigarettes, as even small sparks could spread quickly in these conditions.
By Saturday, temperatures remain well above normal, holding in the upper 70s to low 80s statewide before a cold front arrives. That front is expected to move through the region on Sunday, bringing a return to more seasonal temperatures by Monday.
Until then, Missourians should prepare for unseasonably warm afternoons, stay hydrated, and use caution with any heat-generating equipment outdoors. Additional updates may follow if fire weather concerns increase ahead of the weekend front.
