Addison, IL – Addison residents have an opportunity to responsibly dispose of unwanted household items during a community recycling event taking place Saturday in DuPage County.

According to the Village of Addison, the event will be held Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Addison Public Works Department, located at 1491 Jeffrey Drive. The event is limited to Addison residents only, and proof of residency is required to participate.

Officials say the event will accept a variety of recyclable materials, including electronics, cardboard, books, records, school supplies, and small household items such as smoke detectors, hearing aids, and holiday lights. Televisions will also be accepted, with a limit of two per vehicle.

Document shredding services will be available on-site, with a maximum of three boxes per car. Organizers note that plastic binders will not be accepted with shredding materials. The event aims to provide a secure and environmentally friendly way for residents to dispose of sensitive documents and electronic waste.

However, some items will not be permitted. Hazardous waste, furniture, prescription medications, and microwaves are explicitly prohibited from being dropped off. Residents are encouraged to review guidelines ahead of arrival to ensure compliance.

The recycling event is co-sponsored by Republic Services of Melrose Park, alongside several community partners, including BLH Computers, Proshred, Addison VFW, and SCARCE.

Village officials say the initiative supports ongoing sustainability efforts while giving residents a convenient option to reduce household clutter and landfill waste within DuPage County.
