Oklahoma – Skies will turn volatile fast this afternoon, with storms building after 4 p.m. and quickly escalating into a severe weather threat across eastern Oklahoma.

According to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, thunderstorms will develop by late afternoon and intensify into the evening, with a 90% chance of storms tonight. The risk includes damaging wind gusts up to 35 mph, large hail, and a potential for tornadoes, especially after 5 p.m. across northeast Oklahoma .

Tulsa, Broken Arrow, and Owasso sit in a high-impact zone, especially north of I-40 where the greatest severe risk is expected. Travel along I-44 and Highway 169 could become dangerous as visibility drops and storms produce sudden wind gusts. Secure outdoor items now and identify a safe shelter location before storms arrive.

Rainfall may be heavy at times, with localized flooding possible in low-lying areas by evening. Lightning will be frequent, making outdoor activities unsafe through the evening hours. Plan to be indoors well before storms begin.

Conditions improve quickly by Saturday morning, with sunshine returning and highs near 63 degrees. Cooler, calmer air settles in through Sunday, followed by a gradual warmup into the mid-70s by early next week.

More watches and warnings are likely later today as storms organize. Are you seeing storms develop in your area yet?
