Minnesota – Rain taps steadily on pavement and wind gusts whip off Lake Superior, creating slick roads and reduced visibility across Duluth right now as a sharp spring system moves through.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, rain and thunderstorms continue through the afternoon with a 100% chance of precipitation and wind gusts up to 30 mph. Rainfall totals could reach up to a half inch, especially during heavier bursts. Storms may linger into early evening before tapering .

Duluth, Superior, and areas along I-35 should expect ponding on roads and slower travel through the afternoon commute. Gusty winds may make driving difficult, especially on elevated roadways and bridges. Keep headlights on and allow extra braking distance on wet pavement.

Temperatures fall quickly after the rain exits, dropping to around 27 degrees tonight. That raises the risk of patchy slick spots by early morning as leftover moisture refreezes. Be alert for isolated icy patches on untreated roads and sidewalks.

Saturday turns brighter but much cooler, with highs only near 38 degrees and continued gusty winds. Sunday brings sunshine and calmer conditions, with a gradual warmup into the 50s by Monday and near 60 by Tuesday.

More updates may follow if stronger storms develop this afternoon. Driving today or early Saturday? Watch for changing road conditions and sudden temperature drops.
