Wisconsin – Warm air and a light breeze feel calm for now, but storm clouds are already building, and conditions could turn dangerous quickly across La Crosse by mid-afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, thunderstorms are expected to develop later today, with multiple rounds possible. Large hail, damaging wind gusts, and even a tornado cannot be ruled out as storms move through. At the same time, flooding concerns remain ongoing along rivers and low-lying areas, especially near the Black River .

La Crosse will climb toward the upper 70s before storms begin firing after mid-afternoon. Rain chances jump to 90%, with bursts of heavy rain reducing visibility on roads like US-14, US-53, and Highway 16. Expect sudden slowdowns during the evening commute and avoid low-lying roads where water can collect.

Flooding continues along the Black River near Galesville, where moderate flooding is already occurring. Some rural roads and agricultural land remain impacted, and additional rainfall could prolong high water levels. Do not attempt to drive around barricades.

Behind the storms, cooler air settles in quickly. Saturday turns breezy with highs only in the mid-40s. By Saturday night, temperatures drop near 29°F, raising concerns for frost and potential slick spots where water remains on roads.

Sunday brings sunshine but stays cool, with highs near 49°F. A gradual warm-up follows early next week, with highs reaching the upper 50s Monday and low 70s by Tuesday.
