Fort Worth, Texas – A fast-developing fire threat is unfolding across North Texas today, where strong wind gusts and dry air could allow any spark to spread quickly, especially west of the I-35 corridor.

According to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, wind gusts are reaching 25 to 30 mph Tuesday afternoon with humidity dropping as low as 15 to 20 percent. These conditions are creating an elevated risk for wildfire development across areas including Graham, Cisco, and Mineral Wells, where dry vegetation can ignite and spread rapidly.

The threat continues into Wednesday, with slightly weaker gusts between 15 and 25 mph but humidity only recovering to 20 to 30 percent. Cities including Dallas, Fort Worth, Waco, and Killeen remain under heightened concern, particularly in open grassland areas where fires can move quickly and threaten roadways like I-20 and U.S. 281.

Officials urge residents to avoid outdoor burning, secure trailer chains to prevent sparks, and never discard cigarettes on roadways. Even routine activities can trigger fires under these conditions.

The elevated fire risk is expected to persist through Wednesday evening before winds begin to ease. Additional advisories may be issued if dry conditions continue later this week.
