Grand Rapids, MI – Drivers across western Michigan could face slick roads before the Monday morning commute as rain transitions to snow and gusty winds sweep across the Grand Rapids region.

Saturday starts quiet with increasing cloud cover and temperatures climbing to around 41°F across Kent County and surrounding communities. Conditions remain calm through the day before precipitation develops overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, snow showers could begin before 5 a.m. Sunday, briefly mixing with sleet before changing to rain later in the morning. Warmer air surges into western Michigan Sunday afternoon, pushing temperatures to around 62°F while showers continue to move through the region.

Rain becomes steady Sunday night with showers and a possible thunderstorm between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m. Monday. Colder air then moves in early Monday, allowing precipitation to transition to snow showers after 11 a.m. Monday.

Snow totals are expected to remain under 1 inch, but gusty west winds up to 38 mph may create brief reductions in visibility along major routes including US-131, I-196, and I-96.

Snow showers may linger into Monday night with around 1 inch of accumulation possible before skies gradually improve. Temperatures drop sharply with lows near 17°F Monday night.

Cloudy and colder weather continues Tuesday with highs near 24°F, while additional snow shower chances could return across western Michigan by midweek.
